Committee report good foundation for ferry review - McInnes

10.05.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 27th Jun 2008

Following the publication of the Transport Committee report into ferries, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"The Scottish Government must accept the report's recommendations. Ministers should use this report as a solid foundation for their own longer term review of ferry services.

"Ferries are not an end in themselves, but a tool to preserve and enhance island communities. Good responsive ferry services will be key to building more diverse communities and encouraging families and young people to live on our islands.

"It's also important that our ferry services fit into the rest of the transport network. At the moment, it's a bit disjointed. This is why I'm pleased that the Committee is recommending a forum to encourage regular meetings with all transport operators to improve the integration of train, bus and ferry services."

Ends.
