McInnes welcomes cross-party devolution statement12.00.00am GMT Thu 17th Jan 2008 North East MSP Alison McInnes has welcomed a joint statement from the three main opposition parties reiterating their commitment to the Union. The statement, expressing a shared desire to "strengthen Scotland's position in the United Kingdom", also reiterated the need for a Constitutional Commission. According to the statement, the Commission will "support and develop devolution in the context of Scotland's place as an integral part of the United Kingdom." McInnes commented, "This joint statement represents a bold step forward towards the establishment of a Constitutional Commission which will seek to promote Scotland's national interest and its role as a full partner in the United Kingdom." She continued, "Liberal Democrats have long favoured further devolution and I am pleased that the other parties now acknowledge the benefits it could bring."
