Alison Challenges New Executive's Environmental Credentials

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 18th Jun 2007

Scottish Liberal Democrat Climate Change spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP has welcomed a TRANSform Scotland survey of 850 employees and students on the city waterfront showing that more than three quarters of those questioned would use the tram to get to work. Over half of the students that would use the tram would be ditching their cars to do so.

Commenting, Mrs McInnes challenged the Executive's environmental credentials:

"This survey shows that an Edinburgh tram scheme will cut congestion and car emissions in the city significantly.

"The new Executive claims to be committed to tackling climate change. Why then are Ministers dragging their heels over confirming funding for a public transport project that will cut car emissions in Edinburgh?"
