McInnes Pleased with Premnay School Outcome

North East MSP Alison McInnes has spoken of her delight after hearing that Premnay School, Insch will retain two teachers after Aberdeenshire Council had originally planned to reduce the number of teachers to just one following a dip in school enrolment.

Aberdeenshire Council originally planned to reduce the numbers of teachers to one as the number of pupils will fall from 19 to 17 this August. The parents of children attending Premnay School Insch organized a campaign to retain two teachers which was supported by Alison, and this week they found out they had been successful.

Commenting Mrs McInnes said "Many parents had got in touch with me, expressing their concerns for their children's education at Premnay School, Insch. Being a former Aberdeenshire councilor I recognize the tough decisions the Council faces over teacher numbers in small rural schools. However having heard the circumstances surrounding Premnay School, Insch noticeably the schools high level of staff disruption in recent years I decided to support the parents and I am delighted that Aberdeenshire Council has decided to maintain two teachers at Premnay."
