McInnes Campaigns For 50-Metre Pool in North East12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 28th Jun 2007 Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for North East Scotland Alison McInnes has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament calling for a 50-metre swimming pool to be built in the North East of Scotland. Commenting, Mrs McInnes said: "We have a hotbed of swimming talent in the North East, with local young swimmers breaking British records and successfully competing at local and national levels. "It would be deeply unfortunate if the potential of these youngsters was stifled by inadequate facilities. "Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for many months for a new 50-metre swimming pool for the region as the nearest 50-metre facility is over 100 miles away in Stirling. "I have lodged a motion today in the Scottish Parliament urging the Executive to make the necessary funding available to Aberdeen City Council for a new 50-metre swimming pool in the North East."
