McInnes issues Disability Awards Call to North East Business12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 2nd Jul 2007 Alison McInnes MSP has today urged local people to consider nominating North East businesses for the sixth annual Scottish Disability and Business Award, presented by disability charity Leonard Cheshire. The award aims to recognise the Scottish business community's achievements when it comes to being disability friendly. Commenting Mrs McInnes - "I believe that here in the North East we have a real commitment to being disability friendly, be that through companies offering disability awareness training to staff, promoting diversity in employment procedures or making their premises fully accessible. 'There are one million disabled people in Scotland with an annual spending power of £5 billion. This means that there are real benefits both economically and socially in making our business open and accessible to all. That is why I would urge customers, employees and businesses to take part in this years awards'. 'Leonard Cheshires Scottish Disability and Business Awards demonstrate how small changes can make a big difference. I would hope that business here in the North East can add to that testament by showcasing their disability friendly achievements'. Anyone interested in acquiring a nomination form should either contact my office on 01467 628706 or Leonard Cheshire Scotland on 0131 346 9053."
