Alison McInnes, Liberal Democrat MSP for North East Scotland, congratulated the Energy Saving Trust as their annual Energy Saving Week got underway.

She called on residents of the region to join her in supporting the initiative by following the Trust's recommendations on saving energy at home.

"Not only will taking these simple steps contribute to reducing harmful CO2 emissions but they will save residents money" said McInnes. "Protecting the environment is in everyone's interests - short term and long term."

The Energy Saving Trust have released ten guidelines for reduced domestic energy use, and called on households to commit this week to following at least one.

McInnes, who is also Lib Dem spokesperson on Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, remarked, "It is easy to be daunted by the problem of climate change, but the Energy Saving Trust show that all of us really are able to make a difference in very simple ways."
