Lib Dems Call for Permanent Hovercraft Service

12.00.00am GMT Tue 30th Oct 2007

Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP has called on the Scottish Government to support a permanent hovercraft service across the Forth. The service was trialled this summer and financial analysis by Stagecoach published today has confirmed a clear business case for the launch of a permanent crossing.

Speaking from the Parliament today, Mrs McInnes said: "It's great news that Stagecoach have confirmed a clear business case for a permanent cross-Forth hovercraft service. The trail of this innovative service over the summer was a huge success, and communities on both sides of the Forth have given it their full support.

"There is great potential here for an environmentally sustainable cross-Forth link, which will increase travel options for commuters between Edinburgh and Fife and help to reduce congestion by encouraging people out of their cars.

"I want to see the Scottish Government build upon the success of the trial and give its backing to a permanent hovercraft service across the Forth."
